SWAC Freshman of the Year Antonio Muñoz Commits to San Diego

The 2026 SWAC Freshman of the Year is headed west.

Grambling standout Antonio Muñoz announced Wednesday via social media that he has committed to the University of San Diego, giving the Toreros a versatile and proven young talent.

The Whitney Young (Chicago, IL) product made an immediate impact in his freshman campaign, leading Grambling with 12.5 points per game. He added 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while logging 24.9 minutes per contest.

Muñoz showed flashes of high-level scoring ability throughout the season, topping the 20-point mark five times. His best performance came on February 4 against UAPB, when he poured in a season-high 26 points.

At 6’6”, Muñoz has drawn attention for his skill set at his size—featuring a fluid handle, playmaking instincts, and the ability to create offense. One of his most notable strengths is his ability to get to the free throw line. He led Grambling in attempts and ranked seventh in the SWAC with 172 free throw attempts across 28 games.

Ironically, one of his most aggressive outings attacking the rim came against his future team. In a November 18 matchup versus San Diego, Muñoz got to the line a season-high 20 times, finishing with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

His commitment adds length, versatility, and upside to a San Diego program looking to build momentum with impact transfers.
